      Boulder Opal
      First discovered in Quilpie, in Western Queensland in about 1870, the is found embedded in ironstone boulders. The opal usually forms as thin veins within these boulders, and most stones are cut to include some of the host ironstone matrix. Boulder opal is sometimes referred to as opal in matrix for this reason.       Amazonite Pendant
      Amazonite is the blue-green gem variety of the mineral microcline, which is part of the potasium feldspar family. Amazonite is the only bright blue-greenfeldspar, and gets it’s color from lead. Feldspars are usually found in granite pegmatites or  granitic plutonic rocks. Although it gets its name from the Amazon river, it actually hasn’t been found along its namesake river. Amazonite originally came from Colorado and Brazil, but these sites are producing less and less each year. Now more material is coming from Russia. This piece measures 1 1/2" long.       A very rich looking piece of Rhodonite from Russia, custom cut set in my clay setting, it is on a waxed linen cord with adjustable knots to allow easy adjustment in length. Stone size 1 1/2" long by 1". Named in 1823 from the Greek word ‘rhodon’ meaning rose, rhodonite is a manganese silicate. This mineral is almost always veined with streaks of black manganese oxidation. Both crystals and massive amounts of Rhodonite has been found in Ural mountains of Russia, Sweden and Australia. Finer grained rhodonite is found in Brazil, Mexico, the United States, Canada, Italy, India, South Africa, Japan, New Zealand and England. Gem quality material comes form Madagascar.       ranges in color from blue to gray to white and almost black. It was named for its color, from the Greek word “kyanos”, meaning dark blue. Kyanite is found in metamorphic gneiss and schist also in pegmatite veins through metamorphic rocks.
      And it is often used to make ceramics, such as spark plugs. Gem quality Kyanite occurs in Myanmar, Brazil, Kenya, India, Australia, Kenya, and parts of the United States. Mexican opal is mined in the Mexican states of Queretaro, Hidalgo, Guerrero, Michoacan, Julisio, Chihuahua and San Luis Potosi.       Opalite Tiffany Stone Pendant
      A purple, lavender, white stone sometimes with patches of mauve, yellowish-brown and black is found in beryllium ore (Bertrandite) . This stone is known as opalite, ice cream opal, opalized fluorite and opal fluorite. The name Tiffany Stone presumably comes from the jewelry company of the same name that used it in some of their designs. Mined in the Spore Mountains of Utah, this is a form of opalized stone that forms in mineralized nodules. It is composed predominantly of dolomite, opalized fluorite but often found with minerals such as quartz and chalcedony. A beautiful stone in varying shades of dark purple, lavender and creamy white with swirls of dark and light yellowish brown and pink areas takes a high polish when cut en cabochon.
